"The children, the young children, we have to do something about the children, they are at risk." Warmi Huasi is a small civil association (NGO) I set up with others twelve years ago to accompany families, and especially children at risk, who live in situations of poverty. The name Warmi Huasi comes from the Indian Quechua language meaning "Women´s House."

At the Transfiguration, Father, You showed
Jesus in glory, a glimpse of what His disciples
would see in His risen life.
Bless us in our humanity,
with an awareness of Your presence,
leading us to share in Your divine life
even in our daily struggle.
O Lord, You received affronts
without number from Your blasphemers,
yet each day You free captive souls
from the grip of the ancient enemy.
You accepted Your scourging without murmur,
yet through your meditation
You deliver us from endless chastisements.
O Immaculate Virgin Mary,
Mother of God and Queen of Heaven and Earth,
Through you shines the whole splendor
and magnificence of the Trinity!
O Morning Star, who has merited to usurp the name of the first fallen Star!
You gaze upon the wondrous abundance of the Divine Vision,
as the One closer to the Face of God than all creatures!
O Blessed Lady of the Fields,
who lived with and loved the rural folk of the village,
look down graciously upon the fields and pastures of this,
your adopted land.
Make our homes sanctuaries of Christ as was your home.
Make our fields fertile and abundant.
Heavenly Father, You made the sunset
of my life more beautiful by unlocking the door
to eternal life through the death
and resurrection of Your Son.
Renew my faith, and prepare my heart
as I draw nearer to my heavenly home.
The last time I crossed a body of water on a boat at night was on my first mission assignment in the Fiji Islands. On one night I had to return to the mainland of Vanua Levu from Rabi Island. I told the priest maybe I could return to the mainland the next morning. The priest, sensing my hesitation said, "This is part of missionary life." I saw a little smile on his face. And so I obliged.
The Columbans are a society of missionaries, including priests and lay people, who minister to people of various cultures as a way of witnessing to the universal love of God.
